The 6G-SDI connection allows you to monitor UHD footage. It can capture up to 1080/60p footage and down to 525/59.94i NTSC footage. A headphone port allows you to monitor live audio as well. The Video Assist has 3G/6G-SDI in and 3G-SDI out connections, as well as HDMI in and out connections so you can pass through a clean signal to additional monitors.

The Blackmagic Video Assist is powered by an AC adapter or a pair of Canon LP-E6 format batteries, which can be hot-swapped for uninterrupted use. And, it records ProRes or DNxHD 10-bit 4:2:2 footage to cheap SD cards. Alongside a bevy of camera updates last week at NAB 2015, Blackmagic Design also announced its new Video Assist, which is a HDMI and SDI recorder with a 5″ 1920 x 1080 monitor for just $495.
